Friday, October 16 & Saturday, October 17, 2009

October 8, 2009 – Palisade, Colorado: The 1st Annual Honey Bee Festival will be held Friday, October 16th and Saturday, October 17th in Palisade. The festival celebrates Palisade's honey bees. "Honeybees play an integral role in the propagation of Palisade's agriculture," said event coordinator, Juliann Adams. "Most fruit trees and vegetable species are entirely dependent on bees to produce; there is no artificial replacement for natural pollination. However, honeybees are disappearing. This event calls public attention to this matter."

The festival starts with a reception at the Blue Pig Gallery on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wine and meads from St. Kathryn Cellars, the Meadery of the Rockies, and Grande River Vineyards will be served. Art exhibits include bee-themed work and quilt by Deborah Snyder, encaustics by Diana Woods, Dianna Fritzler, and Amber Streweler, batiks by Susan Metzger, and ceramic honey pots by Sarah Kaspar. Presentations include "Beekeeping," by Palisade beekeeper, Chris Blatter, and "Living Together" by Gary McCallister, Professor of Biology, Mesa State College. Live music will be available at Palisade's Town Center Plaza from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.'

Saturday includes presentations at the Wine Country Inn, wine tastings at Grande River Vineyards, St. Kathryn's Cellars, and Meadery of the Rockies, and vendors in downtown Palisade from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The 'Artsy Fartsy Yard Sale' - a benefit for the Palisade Art Lovers, will be held at 6th and Main Street from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Evening entertainment will be available at Palisade's Town Center Plaza and the Blue Pig Gallery from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

"Visitors will have a great educational experience, enjoy honey bee related products, and bee-centric menu items at many of Palisade's restaurants Friday and Saturday, " said Adams. "And don't forget Palisade's Sunday Farmers Market!" For more information, contact Juliann Adams at the Wine Country Inn at (970) 464-5777 or visit the Palisade Chamber of Commerce's website at
